Blackbush with Jack and Holly - 3.5 miles

This blog is 2 days late! Jack and Holly have been with us for 3 days, and of course no time to do anything pf my own. Catching up now that they have gone home.

It was fantastic that Holly took off cycling on her own their first afternoon here, having managed just about 20 yards when she last stayed in the Autumn. Too big now for the tagalong.  I could tell straight away that she was balanced, so just pushed her off! Simples. Just needed to practice stopping, starting on her own, and turning.

We had bought a new second hand bike for Jack, so Holly got to ride the one Jack had learned on, and Jack was very happy with his new bigger bike. Having done a few miles practicing on the Woosehill pathways, we decided Holly was ready to go into the big outside world. Well... Blackbush airport. 😅

I have only ridden here once before, and we walked when Kai stayed in February, so we parked up in Yateley at the pre-school carpark.

Within the first minute, Jack fell in this mud. He had walked on the
cleaner, higher path to the left, and fallen down the hill.
He did laugh. Phew!

Holly with everything under control as we pass this messy  bit
then it flattens out and we are soon on concrete.

Loads of Gorse in flower too to cheer things up.

We rode up and down the old runway, then went a little further to where the car auctions is, looking for the pathway out to Bramshill forest track. I had been here before on a Monday and it was very quiet, but today unfortunately there were a few lorries around, delivering cars, which spooked Holly a bit. There was plenty of space, but the it got a bit noisy, so we turned back to head for the airport cafe. This is reached across more concrete paths, with gradually turn to muddy paths!

Jack heading for the ramp....

... But came to a halt.

Grandad next over the ramp. Me and Holly used the one on the right.

A couple of very muddy sections, but mostly ok.

At the side of the runway which is in use, and very busy today.

Up , up and away

Almost at the cafe as we skirt around the runway edge.

The boys played on this raised section, then Holly decided she was up for it too.

Needs a one way system!

Time to head back down the hill to the van, and this time thankfully Jack did not fall in the mud.

Strange route map.

Good fun, and great confidence building for the kids. We did 2 more rides over the next couple of days around Woosehill, so clocked up around 10-12 miles. Well done!
