Wokingham to Crazies Hill - 27 miles

I've cycled 94 miles this week and it's only Wednesday. 😩 I was kind of thinking that today's rain forecast might mean no ride, but Daphne and I decided to go for it anyway. "Good for your complexion" said Daphne. (ever the optimist 😎). Daphne drove to my house and we were heading for Crazies Hill.

route

We started in the dry and within 5 mins stopped to put our rain jackets on, but by the time we climbed over Carters Hill towards Binfield,  it was too warm and with the rain a bit lighter, we took them off again. We road along Ryhurst Lane, Bottle Lane and over to Beenhams Heath and stopped at Smewins Road for a breather and to get a photo for my blog. Not great conditions today and even the sheep looked a bit fed up.

Wet wool. Never a good look.

It drizzled off and on, but never so bad that we bothered with jackets at this point anyway. Now over the railway bridge on Butchers Lane, where this next photo is looking towards Crazies Hill, where we are heading. Looking a bit gloomy.

Clematis seed heads at the railway bridge on the opposite side

We climbed to Warren Row and stopped once more just short of Velolife, for this next photo looking to our right. Velolife is currently closed for coffees, and we had already decided to head to the horsebox cafe at Crazies Hill, where I had been quite recently and they have delicious home baked goodies.

We chatted over coffee with these two walkers

We pulled up to allow a car to pass as we drop down from Crazies Hill and
spotted this clock tower on the left.  Not noticed it before.

A wet ride back mostly, and we decided to return via Ruscombe and then we crossed  straight over the roundabout to cut through to Whistley Green. (Daphne not done that bit before). Now left at the duck pond at Hurst and through the lanes.

Brighter skies as we look towards Wokingham.....

But those black skies behind are why we were pretty wet.

We opt to finish by continuing on the Hurst Lanes and over the M4 at Dinton Pastures, then cut through Sadlers End to Woosehill. (That was a mistake... very slippery today, so not planning to go that way for a while now until it dries out.)

Thanks for your good company as always Daphne. See you again soon.
