Beech Hill loop - 28 miles

Monday again, and Gill joined Linda and I today. I thought I wouldn't be free since it's half term, and Jack and Holly are coming here for 3 nights. But as it turned out, we did not have to collect them till 2.30. Daphne is away doing the family half term holiday, this year in Instow.

I don't think I have ever slept as little as I did last night, thanks to my back pain continuing. So I was pretty tired, but as soon I got on my bike, the pain disappeared, as it did yesterday. Thankfully! đŸ˜©

I asked Linda if she could lead today? I suggested Welly Farm Shop. Gill and I both not been there for ages.

Linda had been planning a slightly longer ride, but since I was a bit pushed for time today we peddled a familiar route on the way there. ie Over Farley Hill and to Swallowfield, the Bull Lane to coffee.

The geese are fattening up for Christmas as we climbed Farley Hill

They have extended the cafe at Welly Farm Shop, pinching
some of what was the shop. This photo is just the new part.

We were all very good today, just  tea and no cake. Will it last?  Linda kindly bought the lot. Thank you.

Since we had plenty of time, we decided to extend our route back, initially heading to Beech Hill, then the uphill slog over the A33 bridge,  to drop down Lamb's Lane. Then over the "Green Bridge" on Kingsbridge Hill. Gill said she had never come that direction before.  It's true that we more often than not do it in reverse.

Kingsbridge Hill passing over a River Loddon tributary.

And now uphill to Swallowfield

Linda's thought was to climb Castle Hill back over Farley Hill, but Gill said she would head back home via the University tracks. So we all decided to do that. Mostly fine of course on concrete... until it runs out. What a mess! Deep puddles and mud everywhere.

This was the clean bit of the university farm cut through,
after we had got filthy.

Almost  back, and we left Gill at Winnersh traffic lights, and Linda joined me most of the way home so we all did a similar distance.

Lovely morning again to be out. Picked up the kids from Lightwater Country Park, and now just catching up whilst John is playing cards with them before bedtime. Don't think I'll be far behind them tonight.!  Zzzzzzz.
