Wargrave to Christmas Common via Fawley Vineyard - 30 miles

Our plan for today was to start a ride from Selbourne, then overnight the forecast changed to possible showers until after 11ish. So, instead, we drove to Wargrave. Took ebikes so we could be carefree and go up any hills we fancied. 😉

Route link

Over Hambleden Weir and a left turn for a short section on the Marlow Road, towards Henley, then up to pass Fawley Vineyard, Oaken Grove. Its a nasty climb, starting out ok, but graduation to 10% plus towards the vineyard. Then it keeps going. So power was very much welcome.

Benhams Lane, up to Oaken Grove Vineyard, Fawley.

Views from the top

We continued towards Southend, passing the Round House Farmhouse on the sharp left bend. Then a couple of down and ups as we got closer to Southend, on Drovers Lane.

Views to our left from Drovers Lane, nearing Southend.

Also Drovers Lane, near Southend.

Straight on still until junction at the top of Dolesden Lane, and then a left turn to Turville Heath, near the Barn, and first left to drop into Stonor Valley, on Balhams Lane.  There was a car meet at Stonor today, but we didnt see any apart from normal cars in the car park.

Views part way down Balhams Lane, opposite Stonor.

Same view, a little left.

Same view, a little further left again, at the entrance to the gates.

We turned right, to climb up the Stonor Valley, all the way to the top through Pisshill. It's a very gentle climb most of the way, but ramps up just towards the end on a bend, to about 11%, arriving at the turning to Christmas Common.

From Northend, down Hollway Lane into Turville. It was pretty messy today
with lot of branches and large flint stone, so braked hard the whole way down.

A little further down near the Equestrian Centre.

Turville was heaving today! It was about 12.45, so I guess lots of people going for Sunday lunch at the pub. We headed down the Hambleden Valley, into a head wind! I used the power which is pathetic, but why not.

Back over the weir and up Aston Lane back to the start.
