Another beautiful November morning for our Sunday ebike ride today. We drove to Checkendon Car Park, and were heading eventually to The Spire and Spoke at Watlington.
We started our gradual ascent through the woods to Nuffield.
Kit Lane Checkendon. Colours almost peaking today. |
Then to Park Corner, to drop down the hill to Swyncombe. Makes a very pleasant change than coming UP the hill from Eweleme to Swyncombe!
We stopped just short of Swyncombe church, for another patch of colourful foliage. |
Where the Ridgeway path crosses at Swyncombe |
We dont normally bother with the detour to Swyncombe church, since its steep to get back to the road, but with ebikes today, we did the detour.😉 There were lots of cars at the church. We later realised it was remembrance Sunday.

We enjoyed free wheeling down the steep hill and as it levels out, pulled over once more to these lovley fields, almost Tuscanesque with their undulations.

I loved how this farmer was growing triangles! |
Now to Eweleme, and I popped in the use the loo at the Almsehouses.
coming back out from the Almsehouses. Lovely shadows on the doors. |
We left Eweleme at the bottom of the village, and climbed to the road junction, to cross straight over heading to Brightwell Baldwin. Its a cheeky little climb, so it was nice to use a little power assistance. We continued through Cuxham to Watlington, to Spire and Spoke.
Jaffa orange cake. Lovely! |
Triangular house near Pyrton Church |
Through Pyrton and the climb on Knightsbridge Lane, then left at the top, to the "lone" tree on the right.
It is pretty exposed at this point, and the forecast was for winds of around 13mph, but it was much more up here and as we rode into Chalgrove. I felt a bit unsettled. It was nasty. In Chalgrove, we veered off to the left on a lane we hadnt used before, and which met up at the junction with Mill Lane, Chalgrove. (Berrick Road). This continues to Berrick Salome, Rokemarsh, and eventually staight over into to Benson. We crossed the A4074 using a small footpath, which was much safer than the normal crossing we do. Now through Crowmarsh Gifford and the climb to Hailey.
We passed a cyclist on the hilly section, easy with power on! He said "see you on the next climb". We were heading up Garsons Hill today. John and Dave had done it last week on their gravel bikes, and Dave had done it in one. Its a horrible hill! I was on RED power, and lowest gear in no time, and still had to dig deep. I almost caught up with the cyclist we passed on the last hill. But not quite. He was fit.

The countryside looking glorious today. The trees will soon loose their leaves, so need to get one more ride in very soon, before they all blow away.
Stacey arriving tonight from New York, just a few weeks since her last trip home. This time for Barbara's funeral tomorrow.
