The van was booked for a service today, which meant dropping it off in Reading. We normally do this using two cars, but decided to take our bikes in the van and cycle home. John planned a 30 miles route, which started on the cycle paths from the garage to Green Park and around the back of Madeski Stadium. Neither of us had been to Green Park before (basically an industrial park), but actually its very nice!
Just one of several ponds as we rode through the industrial park |
Once through Green Park, we joined Kirtons Farm Road, which changes name to Kybes Lane as we ride over the M4, then first right into Pingwood Road. Now hard left into Burnthouse Lane, which goes alongside the AWE Burghfield site, and we continue into Riders Lane. (familiar territory now) Passing through Grazeley Green into New Road, I show John the sneaky back entrance into Wasing Park, so we do a wee detour.

Now all the way into Mortimer, turning into Clappers Farm Road to cross the ford. Ford too deep today, and path a bit slippery, so we slide on one foot!

The Coffee Shop at Sherfield on Loddon. Can sit indoors now, but everyone still choosing to sit outside whilst its dry. |
After tea stop, across the A33 and rode up past Lyde Mill. Its under offer! At the top of the lane, we stopped for a few minutes to photograph some bluebells which were at eye level on the bank.
Now through Rotherwick and back via Hazeley to Bramshill. Bit muddy through Bramshill today after a couple of wet days, but we managed taking our time.

We made it to about Finchampstead when the rain started and by the time we were just a few minutes from home it was tipping in down! Soaked again, two days in a row. Van now ready to collect, so off the Reading again in the car now.😊
