Binfield Heath via Sonning - 30 miles

I was due to ride with Susie today, but she felt it too cold, and suggested a walk instead. I walked on Monday with Stephanie, which turned out to be 10.5 miles, and I felt that my right knee was telling me not to walk again so soon. So having rescheduled with Susie, a short ride with John mid morning, when it had warmed up to ........  freezing.😨

Sonning bridge has been closed due to flooding for a couple of weeks, but today we decided to find out if we could get through.  It was still closed to traffic but the road was no longer flooded. The danger we think may be ice risk, since overnight temperatures atm are several degrees below freezing. Some interesting photos anyway.

But road was fine to cycle through. No ice on the road at all

From Sonning we climbed to Dundsden and straight on the Binfield Heath.

We very much wanted to stick to main roads today, and avoid anything that might be a known flood/ice risk. From Binfield Heath we turned left and left again, onto Emmer Green Road, but almost immediately came upon a horrible icy section, so doubled back. Back down through Playhatch, and I suggested a ride over to Caversham Lakes to the Wharf, just to take a look and add a few more miles. The road there was very safe and dry, and we shared a snack bar once we arrived, stopping for just a few minutes, with heavy clouds moving in.

Those dark skies started to drop snow, and a breeze picked up as we started to head for home. I had actually not felt at all cold the whole way there, but within minutes my fingers were pretty cold. A there are back ride today, since we were  bit worried that Sandford Lane might also be a bit icy.

Good to be out, just should maybe have kept to 20 miles, not 30 then I would have been fine.
