Kidmore End via Emmer Green - 27 miles

My plan today was to ride with Karan, since have not seen her for ages. We booked our ride about 3 weeks ago. The temperature has risen over the last 24 hours, which means the snow has gone, to be replaced by rain.  After delaying our start time, and it was still miserable, we decided to rebook.  It's 3 weeks before we are both free again to ride. This 1-1 means it's difficult to fit everyone in.   The weather finally improved by around mid day, so John and I decided to have an early lunch and go out.

My bike had its first service at the weekend, so the rattle now fixed and occasional missing cogs also fixed. Just settling in, and all good.

Our destination was Kidmore End, but with a twist! There is very little we can now do to come up with a new ride when restricted to starting from home, so well done to John for a variation on a theme.

Route

Over Sonning and up to Dunsden Green, where I waited at the phone box whilst John had stopped to answer a phone call from garage. (Van in for repair.... brake alarm permanently on after recent freezing conditions).

At the crossroads of Emmer Green Road, we went left rather than straight on which we normally do, and soon turned right into Kidmore End Road, passing Reading Golf club. A nice lane, dropping down , then a bit of climb up where I stopped for this view looking to the Water tower.

We turn at this junction into Tanners Lane. Rather messy with debris and puddles, but could be a nice spring/summer route. This loops back to Kidmore End Road, which continues arriving at the familiar junction where the pond is opposite the church.

It's now mid afternoon and with overcast weather, we head for home on the shortest route which is an easy downhill now to Bird in Hand Lane, passed the Brewery to Dunsden Green and across the Thames again at Sonning.  Good to get out.
