Wokingham to Yateley via Crowthorne - 25 miles

Lynne led the WLCG today, and had Yateley in mind but to a different tea stop from the ride I led yesterday, and also a different route other than a couple of ford crossings. Thanks Lynne for planning and for finding us a great new tea stop! Martina borrowed my Trek with a view to buying it when I get my new bike in a few weeks.

Route

We welcomed Gill to our group today for the first time, and am sure she will be a regular when not in Devon. Unfortunately Jeanette will be missing out on the next few weeks, but hope we can meet up for coffee sometimes.

Our route took us out through Emmbrook and onto the new cycle paths to the Oakingham Belle. We waved at Cathy and team setting off on their Breeze ride to Wargrave. Passing through the new Montague Park, we emerged on Waterloo Road (just near the railway crossing), then onto Easthampstead Road to cross the ford at Redlake Lane.

Once across, we turned left along Honey Hill road, then wiggled through the roads in Crowthorne in The Pinewood development, and eventually up Upper Broadmoor Road. At the junction of Chaplain's Hill we stopped for me to photograph the clump of trees on the hill, and also Broadmoor walls behind us.

Now School Road, and into the lane below passing this gate on our left, which caught my eye.

Through Snaprails Park and right into Wellington Road, we climb and cross straight over into Hartsleep Road then up the steep Scotland's Hill. (passing Cock-a-Dobby) 😅

This bit was a bit slippery, so we tentatively went down.

The next bit is a repeat of my ride yesterday, joining the Sandhurst Road and turning into Church Lane, we pass Horseshoe Lakes and arrive at the Sean Devereux Golf Course. No one had been before, but it was a very pleasant place to sit, with proper cups and saucers and cake.

The alternative to sitting outside is also ok

Traffic jam!

From here, we follow my normal route through Yateley until Upgreen where we turned left onto Coopers Hill. I wasn't particularly keen to ride this road tbh since I think it's bad enough driving it, with several tight corners, and us heading slowly uphill. We turned off right, near the top, into a gravelly path, taking us between the 2 lakes. Then straight over the A327 and into the R. Collard depot which was rather  mucky after recent rain. Soon, onto a nice wide track through Bramshill Forest.

We stayed on forest track for 2 miles, crossing over the Bramshill Road. This was not the normal track I take opposite Plough Lane, and a bit muddy in places after recent rain. (One for next spring!) We emerged near the Ford, just to the left of the normal track.

Finally back on Part Lane, and through California Park.  An interesting ride of towns, and lanes. Well done Lynne for guiding today.
