Wokingham to Sonning Common - 32 miles

I led a Breeze ride today, officially from Dinton, but Andrea and Louise met me at Morrisons and we cycled over to Dinton together to meet Cathy, Debbie and Denise.  Lovely to see Denise again, after many months, and to see Debbie and Louise back for another Breeze ride.

It was strange shaped route today, but I wanted to get a few hills in and a few extra miles before we went for coffee on our way back to Sonning from Sonning Common.

route

We skirted round the edge of Dinton (with help from people who know their way around Dinton 😊), then through Beggars Hill Lane at the back of Charvil.

Beggars Hill Road.

We crossed over the A4 and headed through Sonning, then straight over again climbing through  Playhatch to Dunsden. A fun little climb to get your warmed up, which brings you to Dunsden Green. We gathered again, and took off any layers, before continuing the more gentle climb to Binfield Heath.

Regrouping at Dunsden Green

At Binfield Heath junction we turned left to Crowsley, enjoying the  long downhill, before a slight rise once more, and turned left into the little Ushaped road passing this pretty cottage.

Back onto Sonning Common Road, then left into Blackmore Lane, dropping down into Sonning Common. Then right and left into Wood Lane, taking us further into Sonning Common and joining Kennylands Road, which is a lovely wide downhill road. Then into Bird in Hand Lane, and straight over to the cross roads, where Andrea took the next photo, and I took the one of the field opposite the Cross roads.

Gorgeous sunny day

As we arrive back into Dunsden from Church Lane, we are rewarded with the downhill back through Playhatch, and this time turn right at the roundabout (towards Caversham), turning left at the lights, into Caversham Lakes road.

A bit of  a brisk breeze had picked up here, and at least twice the dustbins got blown over by strong gusts of wind. (Doesn't bode well for cycling back!)

Retracing our steps now back through Sonning, we return via Pound Lane,  though the back of Woodley and cross the ford using the footbridge into the horse field....no horses today.

no two people deal with this gate the same way!
Debbie's turn and Louise to follow
First through and waiting are Denise, Andrea and Cathy

Finally, we return using the Hurst back lanes, then over the motorway at Dinton, back to Wokingham. Well done to everyone who will have clocked up between 32-35 miles. Thanks for your good company.
