Wokingham to Cranbourne - 30 miles

It's officially the first day of Autumn today, and what a cracking day it is. 26 degrees this afternoon, and never cold as we set off from Woosehill this morning on a Breeze ride to the quirky Fishing Lake Cafe in Cranbourne. Since the weather from tomorrow is turning wet and colder by at least 10 degrees, I planned today's route to include some of the off road tracks which could at any time soon become not so bike friendly until after the winter.

route

We left via Emmbrook and crossed to the Diamond Jubilee northern distributor road. We thought we were doing the right thing by using the new cycle paths, but it was pointed out to us, by a pedestrian, that the left side of the road is footpath, and the right side of the road is a shared Cycle Lane. That makes no sense at all, when you join in the left lane, and want to stay on the left to turn into the Binfield Road....but we will know next time. Crossing over the motorway, we enjoyed the relatively traffic free Binfield Road, where a farmer was out working and causing a lot of dust.

Binfield Road

Waiting for the photographer. I really hope that these open views on this
road remain that way, and are not built on.

Out via Binfield, and return via Shurlock Row

At the top of the Binfield Road we crossed straight over, and took Monks Alley into Binfield, passing 3 contractors sitting having a break. I told them we were looking for Monks, and one said that they were out of the habit. 😅 We then rode along Ryehurst Lane and turning right along Bottle Lane crossed over at Moss End then right at Frost Folly car park on Wellers Lane.  Keeping left until we reached the Ascot Road, we turned right then first left into the quiet Garsons Lane emerging at Maidens Green and then onto Winkfield Lane.  Then the long, flat and very smooth Crouch Lane, connecting us to North Street, Cranbourne where the kettle was on.

A tea pot each, and lovely cakes too

On my Hybrid today for a few off road sections

Retracing our steps initially we turned right off the busy Ascot Road into Nuptown Lane, and onto the bumpy track passing Fernygrove farm shop, then crossed on to the track alongside the road before crossing once more into the downhill off road Pendry's Lane.

Perfect timing!

It was so much easier riding on Westley Mill Lane on fresh tarmac!  This road was in serious need of repair a long time ago.  At a left hand bend, we cut through a little track I had noticed on a map which meant that we completely managed to miss riding on Howe Lane, crossing straight over to another track I had used before, which joins up with Spinning Wheel Lane, near Shurlock Row.  Now through Shurlock Row, left a the pond, and all the way down Hungerford Lane.

Our last leg was through the back lanes of Hurst Village, up past the Castle Inn, then through the Hurst lanes again, and over the 2 motorway bridges back into Wokingham.

Well done ladies on a 30 miler, especially to those who may not yet have done that distance before. A gentle intro to a longer ride, on a leisurely route taking in some lovely quiet lanes.
