Riseley to Silchester - 28 miles

I led today with two friends I have not seen since Covid Lockdown started, other than on Zoom calls.
I met Stephanie and Jackie at Riseley. John came along and met his friend Dave too. They set off ahead of us. We saw them briefly at Silchester, then not again until the end. (Our average speed was faster, but we stopped to chat for longer!)

John and I had done this route recently, but my Garmin had not recorded the first mile or so last time. I started my Garmin from the car park, assuming it would have the intelligence to recognise the route after the first mile. Wrong! It told me I was off course for the entire ride. Fortunately, I remembered the way, and it recorded my route. At the end, I was amazed to get a personal best badge for speed!  I was on my road bike (ie no power), but since we only stopped once for a photo, and then for a drink stop, we kept a good speed going throughout. Steph doesn't hang about!

We had one little stop just off New Road, Wokefield, to look at this little house which I spotted on the original ride. I changed the ride slightly to avoid the hill on the main road, only to find that there is still a climb along New Road.

We stopped for a drink and snack in the churchyard at Silchester, otherwise just kept going, finally up Laundry Lane to Heckfield.
