Wargrave to Radnage - 30 miles 1700 feet

Out with John today and a route we last rode on Easter Sunday, out to West Wycombe area. I had ridden this only this once and remember some steepish climbs, so power button was on standby!  Very different weather today, and quite chilly. Last time it was 22 degrees.

Route

We parked at Upper Wargrave and soon crossed the weir at Hambleden. The water flow was different today with some alternative gates open.

Hambleden Weir gushing today

A dull light, but still a pretty scene towards Hambleden as we turn up towards Rotten Row
At the top, we continued a steady climb in the direction of Frieth, where at the crossroads we turned right towards Lane End.
Lane End Church. A good spot to stop for a breather.

Once through Lane End a left into Bullock Farm Road. A quiet lane, with nowhere to go if
you meet a car coming. Just beyond this point, the view opens up...

... views to West Wycombe Mausoleum

Dull sky, but still a pretty view. We will drop down now to the bottom and join the
A40 for a short stretch.

Half way down the steep hill this view to left. Farmer hard atwork on a Sunday
Now after a short climb from West Wycombe there is a flat option, rather than continue on the road which would take you over this hill. Flat option sounds good to me!

The lane into Radnage is beautiful. Slightly elevated to offer these amazing views. I was fascinated by the light and shadow on this field.

Looking back to the rise we just came up

Coming into Waterend, a lovely woodland scene, which starts easy.. then its not!
Me starting off up the hill into Waterend Woodlands
I get ahead, with the help of my power button. Part way up, and a vehicle comes behind. I  made them wait till I was at the top, and found a space to pull in.
Here he comes
Now we cross over the A40 once more, and a quiet lane to Horsley Green, which takes us over the noisy M40, and into Chequers Lane.

Views from Chequers Lane, looking to Fingest.
20 miles done now, and no tea stop yet. There is no where out here, so our planned stop if Hambleden Post Office as usual. I just hope that place never closes!

And finally back across the weir, before our final climb back to Upper Wargrave.

Beautiful ride, and the autumn colours are just starting to look good. Lacking a bit of sunshine to warm us up today. Felt cold for the first time in a while.
