The Horns Pub Crazies Hill to Turville and Freith (18.5 miles)

I offered to lead an evening ride for a few Breeze buddies, and other halves if they also wanted to come along. A few could not come at the last minute so we were 6, which was a nice number

John and Me
Linda and Nigel
Elise and Hywel

We arranged to meet at The Horns Pub, and had also booked a table for dinner on our return. As we left Wokingham the heavens opened and by the time we got to Twyford, the road was like  a river! We were on the point of calling off the ride and settling for an early meal, when just as quickly as it started the torrential rain stopped. We were off .....with the promise of sunshine to end the day. With just two hours of daylight, we had planned a 20 ish mile route.

John and I had been digging all day, so were already knackered, and Elise, ( fresh back from her 4 day ride to Paris!!!!), was not sure how she would get on. She got on fine. Whereas I was definitely weary by the end.

The route

Usual route, down to Hambleden Lock, and fabulous clouds by this time .

It was very muggy so time to remove a layer for Elise

This next photo at a favourite viewing point leaving Hambleden Village after that nasty little rise toward Pheasants Hill. Possibly favourite since it give you a chance to recover!

Whilst John and Linda were up front, followed by Nigel and Hywel, Elise and I took a steadier pace and we all rendezvoud at the turn for Turville. Knowing we had to climb to Freith, I opted not to bother with the short detour into Turville, and set off with Elise to look for another photo stop.

Views looking back just beyond Fingest

Elise and I carried on at a leisurely pace, thinking the others would soon catch us up..... but they didnt, so eventually we waited as we approached Frieth. (John told us later that he turned back twice to look for us... oops!)

We carried on taking the second right turn in Frieth (no name on this track) then straigh over eventually joining Chisbridge Lane, where these open fields are always enjoyable.

Of course, I then had to peddle like mad to catch the rest of them up, waiting at the top of the next hill!

Now at Rotten Row, a huge downhill back to river level. We stopped part way to admire the view before it disappeared.

John, Nigel, Linda, Elise, Hywel.
So , back across the lock, then the inevitable climb back from the Flower Pot at Aston to Remenham Hill.

A wee bit late getting to the pub (8.20), but  we started a bit late  because of the downpour. Excellent food at the pub, so will be back!
