Wokingham to White Waltham - 20.5 miles

With the prospect of no Breeze cycle ride this week, due to rain forecast, thought I best get out today. I set myself a goal of reaching White Waltham airfield , not knowing how far it would be other than probably more than 15 miles round trip. Turned out to be 20.5.

Route map (takes a few seconds to open)

Left Wokingham heading out towards Cantley where quite an interesting sky with some warmth in it. This was around 10.00am.

Turned into Forest Road, then left into Maidenhead Road, following it passed the Binfield  Dog Rescue Centre, onto Carters Hill. This was  bit of a climb, enough to peel off my headband as it suddenly felt a lot warmer!Turned left into Church Hill, then on that awkward bend, right into Howe Lane.

Farm on Howe Lane

Another Farm also on Howe Lane with a strong smell of turnips!

Turned left here, heading to Waltham St Lawrence.......

...turned right into Church Hill. Managed a peak over the hedge at Waltham Place
First views of St Marys Church

St Mary's Church, with the clock showing 12.30 (wrong). It actually chimed 11oclock whilst I was here.

parked up for the photo of the church and noticed this wall. Not sure why it is still standing!

Old barn just opposite the Church

Plane taking off just as I arrived at White Waltham airfield. 10 miles so far.

Now back tracked half a mile or so then headed to Waltham St Lawrence village. Road quite narrow at this point, but there was a footpath on the narrower parts. Decided to do a short detour to photograph the pub where we had lunch just 2 weeks ago. The Bell is a 14th century pub, and the food is excellent. Not stopping today though.

The pretty Archway to Waltham St Lawrence Church, just next to the pub
Next, choice of routes home, and opted for the road to Shurlock Row, where I stopped for 2 minutes at the village pond. Bit of blue sky now at last.

5 more to go!

Now on the first of the Straight Miles, which is pretty straight!

This taken just at the end of The Straight Mile. Taken at around 12.00 but looking almost like late afternoon
Now left onto the other Straight Mile, before joining the Forest Road and retracing my steps back home. Nice trip, just a couple of hills, so not too challenging.
