WLCG to H'Hartisan 25 miles

"Just the two of us" today.

We were very sorry last weekend to hear that Lynne's Dad had died, following a short illness.  Very sad,  and so soon after Gill's father died too. Lynne was visiting her Mum again today, Martina still on her mammoth Australian holiday, and Jeanette on Nanna duty today. Gill on her way home from Nanna time, and Andrea not riding today. So just Louise and me free today.

A bit of rain was forecast for late morning, so we agreed last night that we would make a decision in the morning.  We stayed local and set out with no route!! 😇😂

Our recorded route

We were heading in the direction of Wargrave, and started our route through Hurst passing the Castle, then up Broad Hinton, where I decided even one extra layer was too much today. (very different to yesterday's chill).  We rode on New Road, to cross the A4 at Hare Hatch, to drop into Wargrave.

Busy at H'artisan, but we got a table inside. We had quite a long coffee break, lots of chat, then uphill leaving Wargrave to Dark Lane, where they views to the left were very clear today. This road is called The Walled Garden. I looked online any history about the history of the road and not surpisingly, it wa once part of Wargave Manor. But I had no idea that Gertrude Jekyll once lived there.

View over the rooftops in the street called The Walled Garden.

One more photo today, taken on Highfield Road, as we headed to Holy Cross.

Ready for next year.

Our return was past Sip and Spoke, over the A4 into Bottle Lane,  to White Waltham and Shurlock Row. The WIND this morning was gusting at 35mph!!!! It was exhausting, as we were straight into it much of the way back.

Good to be out, since Wednesday had been too wet to ride.  We stayed dry this morning, but some proper heavy rain for a short time this afternoon, just at the time when I had got all my tools and plant pots ready for planting......To be continued.  I have 216 plants to plant, and not yet half way.

(Next Friday I am leading a Breeze ride since the regular leaders are not free. Hope a few of you are free to meet up, or if just a couple of you, maybe join the Breeze  Ride, if any spaces once the Friday ladies  have signed up.)
