Odiham to Dummer via Cliddesden - 32 miles 1800 feet

Sunday, so ebikes, and we drove to start in Odiham by the canal, continuing to Greywell and through Mapledurwell.

I took the drone today but the winds were gusting up to 35 mph, so took a few miles to pick up the courage to try it.  An opportunity came once we climbed away from Mapledurwell.  It actually coped extremely well! Footage is rock steady. I had planned to use my remote control for some higher shots, but when setting it up on my handlebars, it took a little time, so ditched the idea and used  my mobile phone instead on the handlebars. (I need to get on my own to practice, just haven't felt like it during a cold winter.)

A mix of drone screen shots, mobile shots from John, and some later ones from me, using my mobile, after I had finished using it for the DJI drone app.

Using my phone app on my handlebars, I was able to
change the direction whilst on the go.  Forward....

...higher

side....

..and to the back.  It successfully avoided  all trees and hedges
despite being blown the strong winds.

At the end of this lane, we turned right to drop down on Dickens Lane, under the railway bridge, then up again to dog leg over the  A339 and ride alongside the M3 for a short distance to Cliddesden.

Once through Cliddensden, left at the pond into  Hackwood Lane, to join the beautiful lane called Northgate Lane, to Ellisfield. Flat to start then steep to the top.

we need to climb very soon.

Northgate Lane, to start the climb.

A cyclist  had passed us, and I tried to not catch him
up, as felt guilty using power. 😉😂. But I have done this
a few times on my gravel bike too.

Photo by John after we pass through Ellisfield
and approach Farleigh Wallop.

At the section with the steep down and up, I gave John my phone on this handlbars, and the drone followed him. Unfortunately 2 cars got in the way, so he landed it the first time, but we just kept going to the top the second time.  (The drone was high enough to clear a car if it had continued anyway.)

Grammeresham Lane, Farleigh Wallop.
John now the drone's target to follow.

He  managed also to move it  from rear facing
to front follow. 😇😅

Coming in to land on his palm.

Drone now back in the bag since the wind just seemed ridiculous at times. Hoping for quieter weather mid week.

Soon downhill on Farleigh Lane, where we often stop for a photo of the trees.

The honesty cafe was busy (its Mother's day), but we got the last table.

I don't remember too much about what was coming the next section on Duxford Lane,  so stopped for a photo of a lovely scene.

We dogleg over into Berrydown Lane, which I recognised, and have ridden in both directions before. A quick couple of photos as aid memoir!

Berrydown Lane, sort of  around the base of Moundsmere.

All familiar now as this road continued all the way to Herriad, as we ignore any turns off to Ellisfield on our right.

We always enjoy the 2 mile downhill into Upton Grey, where we turned left at the pond.

A final photo along Upton Grey Road towards Greywell, with the textures of the freshly prepared soil.

Before we reached Odiham, I suggested a short detour to North Warnbourgh across the Canal since I've not been there for ages. (It's a horrible climb back out on a busy roads, but we have ebikes!)

I'm sure this horse was being used to cut the front grass. Easier
than getting out the lawnmower.

Nice route but for the wind!  Role on summer.
