I offered to accompany Cathy today on a shorter ride if she was interested, to offer a ride to those ladies who did not join us yesterday on my 30 mile 100th ride. We only had 2 take up the offer. I suspect that many were child minding for half term. But good to offer a ride since Clare can only do school holidays, and Colleen was recovering from being unwell, so they were both very happy to be out in a our select group of 4, setting a leisurely pace. Cathy and I were both a little jaded from yesterday.... so an easier ride suited us too!
Cathy and Colleen started at Montague Park, and picked up Clare and myself near Cantley. We used the cyclepaths to Dinton, then in to the Hurst Lanes.

Hyrst lanes. My first sighting of lambs this year. Proud mum number 30. |
This Ewe didn't take her eyes off the whole time we were watching. |
From Hurst, up passed The Green Man, then to Shurlock Row. We continued straight on to join Howe Lane. The road was filthy here with lorry traffic comings and goings from farm. Then first left to Westley Mill. I had been expecting to see a patch of snowdrops here, and so was not disappointed. A rider got a puncture here years ago, so I know exactly where the snowdrops are. 😊
Westley Mill snowdrops. Quite a tall variety. Clare, Cathy, Colleen. |
Next, into Bottle Lane, all the way to Moss End, where Cathy had booked a table indoors. It was a dampish kind of day, so that was a good plan. By the time we came out, it had turned to a heavier drizzle. We backtracked part way along Bottle Lane, then Ryehurst Lane and Cabbage Hill Lane to Binfield. We cut through at Jocks Lane park to peddle up to Amen Corner, then used the cyclepaths back to the start. It was more significant rain by the time we finished our 22 mile loop, but thankfully not too cold.
