The forecast was wet again. BBC 90% chance of rain, MET office, 50% chance. Having been indoors yesterday, and tomorrow also looking wet, we decided to get out. John is still "testing" his ebike which occasionally fails momentarily, so of course I had to take mine too.😉 Not a great test on this ride which is very easy, but it does make it very enjoyable to just press the power button occasionally, and it meant that if the rain did come on, we could dash home.
We left over the 2 motorways and to Shurlock Row and Waltham St Lawrence.
Just passed WSL church, this lane goes around the corner to pass Shottesbrooke. |
Then into Butchers / Bottle Lane White Waltham, which can be very messy after lots of rain... and it was. but at least no floods across the whole road. Next we crossed the A4, heading to Warren Row, and stopped for a few minutes with our cameras at the old woods, where the ferns in particular were looking nice today. Stopped in two places. Must go back with my decent camera, and wellies. There is a very wet ditch here so cycling shoes are not ideal.
Beech trees just starting to turn. |
John was interested in the fallen trees across the other side of the road. |
Crazies Hill next and as we dropped down the narrow section, I noticed the colourful Beech hedge on the left on the bend, with the clock tower ahead. We don't ride on this lane, but often look at the clock.
Crazies Hill |
We returned via Dark Lane, and across the A4 into Ruscombe, dropping down through Broad Hinton into Hurst, then up passed The Castle pub. We got home about 5 mins before the heavens opened!
Good to get out since tomorrows Monday ride looks pretty much cancelled. Meeting Linda for cuppa instead.
