I have often ridden past the Frost Folley car park, behind Moss End Garden Centre, and thought there must be a ride from here. So today there was. I kind of put together my knowledge from 3 different rides and filled in a few gaps.
I was leading the WLG today, and joined by Martina and Lynne. John and I drove to meet up with them at the car park, and Dave joined John there. The "boys" took off just ahead of us, with the same route.
Initially we followed the route passing Lakeview Fishing Cafe, but then continued into Cranbourne, and entered Ascot Racecourse. No one else had been before, so it's always a bit of surprise to know you can cycle within the racecourse grounds.
I loved the clouds over the grandstand, and they are more pronounced in black and white. |
Our route then took us to Cheapside and we entered WG Park at the Blacknest Gate for a circuit around Virginia Water. A bit slow with dog walkers getting in the way at times, but otherwise a pretty clear run.
Looking back to the entrance to the park. We turned immediately right at the house to skirt the edge of Virginia Water |
You can see the wind whipping across the lake today. |
We caught up with Dave and John at Savill Gardens Cafe |
Lynne checking her OS map to see where we had been so far |
Now continuing around the edges of the Great Park, we pass the Royal School and head for Watersplash Lane entrance.
Within WG Park. Some hints of autumnal colours |
Once up Watersplash Lane we retrace our steps through Ascot Racecourse, where the clouds were now very different.
Back inside Ascot Racecourse |
Martina was wondering how the horses got around the track, which is left and right of these tracks. (our way out).... |
This is the answer.. the turf slides into place on race days! |
Our route now takes off in the opposite direction from the way in, and through some handy tracks towards Chavey Down, and Winkfield Row. I wasn't quite sure where I was most of the time on this last section, but it all fell into place eventually, as we turned into Malt Hill. Thank you Garmin for behaving yourself today!
A varied route, and a bit of a change from our usual. Glad everyone seemed to enjoy it.
