Wokingham to White Waltham - 26 miles (4.5hours!!!)

I rode this afternoon with Jeanette.....yes afternoon!  Whatever next!! Rode my hybrid today.

We set off from Woosehill at 1.30 on a leisurely ride through Hurst and Ruscombe over to Hare Hatch and Waltham St Lawrence, then a loop down Butchers Lane, across Cycle Route 4 back though White Waltham, stopping at the airfield for a cuppa.  Simples.  Unless you get "technical issues" !

Through  Hurst and then passing the Vineyard, we stopped just opposite Ruscombe Church for my first photo.

Ruscombe and the crops are cut down here now, but I like the field edges left longer accentuating the curve in the road
Now up to Hare Hatch, and right towards Waltham St Lawrence crossing over the railway at Milley Bridge. (We cross the railway 3 times today.)

The view at Milley Bridge changes with every season.

Now into Waltham St Lawrence where, at the Church, we keep left  into Halls Lane. A nice little detour where we pass this lovely farm building and farmhouse.

Next a left following the B3024 into White Waltham, where we turn left at the cricket field into Butchers Lane, continuing for a mile or so, crossing back over the railway, then  a right turn into Cycle route 4, crossing between the crop fields. The farmer out cutting today and a bit dusty! We also had to get passed a parked trailer (the entire width of the road), and then another just a bit further along. This lane is normally empty!

 And then! Oh no!!
We spent longer than we should getting the puncture sorted, but we did it.

Wheel going back on.... or not? A previously undetected problem made this part a bit tricky.
The view at the "puncture" pit stop.

Really!!!! This is an off road QUIET lane. Had to quickly grab all the puncture changing gear and move over.

Behind us another road block as the truck meets the tractor on a bend.
Finally, we got on our way, at 3.45. We had planned a tea stop at White Waltham airport, which according to their website served tea until 4pm. Would we make it?  We turned into Breadcroft Lane, and for the 3rd time crossed over the railway, then a right turn into White Waltham Village and the airport......3.55!!!

And relax.

Watching the take off
We start off on our return route, but after just a few hundred yards, Jeanette has problem with her gears. Her chain is getting stuck. This happens off and one, and so she decides its best to continue without changing gear the rest of the way home. We return via Shurlock Row and Hurst Lanes then finally over the 2 motorway bridges into Wokingham. Poor Jeanette struggled up her in a low gear, before her chain finally stuck completely as she "cruised" into Wokingham on the final downhill. She walked the last 2 miles home.  We got back at 6pm.
