We heard at 7.30am that John's Dad Bill has died. John drove to visit him for a short time last night. It's been a very emotional few weeks for the family since with Coronavirus restrictions in place, driving has not been allowed and also no hospital visits have been allowed. Bill's death has come on the anniversary of my own Mum's death on 6th May 2016, so a poignant day for both of us.
It seemed like a good idea to get out on our bikes, to help take our minds off the sadness. John's Dad, a great cyclist himself, would have loved the ride today, enjoying the freshness of spring. It certainly lifted our spirits.
route
The route was mostly familiar, other than a new section, for me, up the first hill in Harpsden, (Woodland Road) through the beautiful Harpsden Woods. Then down to Lower Shiplake, then crossing the main road again up to Binfield Heath and Dunsden before our return over Sonning Bridge. We then crossed through the field at the ford near Hurst.

Views just after passing The Flower Pot at Aston. We did not cross the Thames here today but continued into Henley and crossed over there. |

Our snack stop on the tow path in Henley. Boats not allowed to move atm because of Coronavirus, so all very quiet on the river. |
