Wokingham to Bray - 33 miles

Another gorgeous day to be out. John fancied going to Bray so I worked out a route, which was pretty successful...on the way there at least. Not quite so, on the way back, crossing two fields!

route

Initially we headed for Binfield, passing the back of the Football ground, a very familiar lane of late, but always pretty. Some horses out for a walk today to add to the interest. Then along Bottle Lane and out the back of Moss End Garden centre, and right at the green triangle.

the pretty St Michaels Church, Warfield

Now up Malt  Hill

and right onto the main road for a short stretch, before a left turn into Garsons Lane and continuing for a few miles along Winkfield Lane, before a left into Drift Road. All roads of course very quiet just now, so no problem with traffic. Then a right into Fifield Lane, followed by a lovely loop into Holyport using Bridal paths, which were better than some of the roads! We continued crossing the main road and under the M4 to Bray. A quick tour before we continued.

At The Waterside Inn

Now we followed Monkey Island Lane, crossing over the M4 this time,

Pretty house and Wisteria on Monkey Island Road.

Next into Fifield Road, then back over the B3034 (Forest Green Road). The track here had this sign...

So, we went through the gate and the path turned into a beautiful driveway. We eventually arrived at a HUGE property, with no security or anything, but we felt obliged to walk out bikes passed the house using the well manicured lawn as we did so. Something didn't feel quite right..... like we shouldn't have been there, but saw nothing to stop us! Once passed the house, we realised there was a very scruffy path that we should have used, off to the left of the property, and then we came to a closed vehicular gate. It wasn't locked, so we let ourselves out. The road beyond the gate would have meant us going back on ourselves, and the route went straight on, so we had to ride over a couple of fields to once more cross over the Drift Road. Then we disappeared into some rideable, but narrow paths for well over a mile, before emerging at Nuptown, near Fernygrove Farm Shop (all part of the plan).

A short section of the Ascot Road, then into the pretty Pendrys Lane, bringing us eventually across the ford at Westerly Mill.  From here  over Carters Hill and back home. Starving, since John forgot his snack and we had to share  mine... at least he thought he had, and when we got home he found it in his bum bag.
