A lovely recce ride with Susie, Jackie, and Linda B checking out the route to Waltham Place, which is only open Wednesdays, but wanted to check it out.
I headed over via Ludgrove School to meet up with the others, where I took my first photo of threatening skies. The grasses completely parched after 6 weeks of heat and no rain.
We headed out on the Binfield Road, through Binfield and skipping by the "road closed" signs, up towards Howe Lane. All the way to the end, turning right towards Paley Street, then almost opposite The Royal Oak, turned left into a road called Paley Street. It deteriorated into a track, but lovely views over the crop fields.
Then shortly before arriving at Woodlands Park Avenue another lovely view
Next we turned into Breadcroft Lane (part of cycle route 4) A lovely lane, where we saw the oldest house in this area (according to Susie).
At the end of this lovely lane, a left then almost immediately right at a gap in hedge. I recognised now where we were, since we often enter this field from the opposite end doing our ride into Littlewick Green.
Over to White Waltham, but a quick detour first up Church Road (UP!) to find the entrance to Waltham Place, a tea stop for a Wednesday ride.
But today we backtracked to The Beehive Pub, where we had some lovely nibbles with our £4 cup of tea or coffee. Expensive, but made sense one they brought the goodies.
Pretty windy today, so a fight all the way home via Shurlock Row, then Billingbear passed the Dog Rescue place. 29 miles in total for and longer for the others. thanks Susie for a nice ride.
