Another short ride in the rain at Windsor

A miserable day, so we cut our ride short. Coffee stop instead under the railway building in Windsor town centre. Managed 13 miles round trip. Still nice to get out.

Croatia National Parks Island Hopping. 124 miles 7,231 feet.

We enjoyed our 2023 Island Hopping tour, (Dubrovnic to Split) so much last year, that we booked another for this year. Smaller Islands this time, some connected by bridges, and also a bit of Inland Croatia to visit a National Park, and our final day also inland through spectacular mountain scenery, to reach our destination of Trogir. Another excellent trip booked via Insulhupfen. THURSDAY JUNE 20TH As we approached Split Airport, the flight captain announced that the temperature was 39 degrees. Agghh. Much too hot! A 15 min taxi ride to Trogir to our overnight hotel, which thankfully had very efficient AC. Breeze Champs meet up. Ewelme to Benson via Little Haseley. 28 miles

Many months ago, our Breeze area co ordinator Rachel, asked the Breeze Champs from Berks, Bucks and Oxon to put 5th October in the diary, for a meet up. She also asked if anyone would like to plan a route and a suitable coffee stop for 20+ ladies? I kept quiet for a bit, since I had led one before, but no one else came forward. I then thought of a private garden in Chalgrove that I would like to see, but which only opens for private group visits. So I volunteered to start a ride from Ewelme, to Chalgrove, if ladies were interested. A few have been to Ewelme before, so I wasn't sure how many would want to do that again, but initially a good number. THEN...I got an email 3 days ago from the Chalgrove Garden owner, to let me know that her lovely garden had been badly damaged by flood water a few days ago, (a stream runs through her garden to feed her lake.) and with regret she felt it wasn't up to a visit. Breeze Summer Social to Pye Hill House, Finchampstead. - FBC 18 mile loop

I had spotted a "New" Open garden on the NGS Website this year, and realised it was fellow (occasional) Breeze Rider Rachael's garden. We have chatted about gardens a few times, and she has been to visit my own garden on a Breeze ride a few years ago. Not a gardener herself, but I knew that her husband was a very keen gardener, and loved garden projects. A few photos on the NGS website suggested a contemporary garden with large swathes of perennials..... just my kind of garden. BUT it also has the advantage of mature trees as a wonderful backtrop. And plenty of space too which also helps. With a minimum of 12 to make it worth while for her opening, I managed to get 16 signed up pretty early on, which was the max I could take with just myself and Jill available to lead. A bit of panic then, when Jill fell off and broke her elbow a few weeks ago!
