Having cycled 41 miles on Sunday, and planted for 12 hours the past two days, I drove to the start at Crowthorne today rather than cycle, feeling a little weary. After rainfall overnight, the temperature today is only 15 degrees, 10 lower than a few days ago.
Today was one of Susie and Chris's epic mystery tours skirting round Bracknell in all directions, and only after mapping it out (approx) when I got home did I appreciate where we had been. Good work ladies! A nice ride, although a slow pace due to multiple crossings.
The route
We met at Wellington College Fitness club and cycled out over the East Berks golf course, passe the Crooked Billet and over the ford at Redlake Lane. It was all a bit slippery after the rain, so safer to walk across.
Next out of Wokingham on the Easthampstead Road, and passed by the Downshire Golf Course and finally to South Hill Park where Daphne and a new lady Joanna joined us.
Next we wiggled around the cycle paths through Bracknell, crossing Mill Park and out passed the Waitrose Distribution Centre. A bit more wiggling before we joined a path running alongside a stream called The Cut, bringing us out at Temple Way. We then crossed over onto a brand spanking new cycle network which is at the back of all the new housing off of Harvest Ride. Hats off to Bracknell Councilc/developers for including this scheme. So far, it looks great.
We finally emerged into West End Lane, and crossed into Watersplash Lane, appearing just near The Yorkshire Rose Pub. ahhhh, so that's where we are!
A few more lanes brought us to "the green triangle of grass" at the back of Moss End Garden Centre. Another "ah, so this is where we are moment". I have only approached this before from the opposite direction. And now on to Ferneygrove for our tea stop.
A bit of a grey day, but the crops made the view interesting today at the farm shop.
We continued along the track from the farmshop, turning second right into Nuptown Lane. Then a short section of main road, before a right turn into Malt Hill...... as in uphill.
We continued straight, crossing the B3022 and into Westmorland Park, then into all the Shakespearean names onto Julius Hill. Now over to Lily Hill Park another lovely green space with white gate the the end as it opens onto the A329.
Now using more cycle paths, through Martins Heron, and over the A329 pedestrian bridge to Coral Reef.
Think my map may be inaccurate at this point, but basically we headed back to South Hill Park and back to Crowthorne via the B3348.
It took 4 hours in all, so not a fast speed as a result of lots of junctions, but very enjoyable. Big thanks to Susie and Chris.
