Odiham to Bentley - 26.5 miles 1800 feet gain!

Out today with hubby and Susie. We had thought of cycling to Marlow, but last minute change of plan since Susie has never cycled much beyond Odiham.

Our route would take us through Long Sutton, Well, Bentley with tea stop at Blacknest. Returning via Isington  crossing The River Wey at Isington Mill, Lower Froyle , Upton Grey and through Greywell. Always a problem finding  a half way tea stop, and being Sunday, even more limited. We searched before leaving and found a country park near Birdworld, at The Alice Holt Cycle Centre, where Susie's hubby would meet us later.

We parked  beside the canal in Odiham, and part way up the high street, a left turn emerging into stunning countryside within a matter of just a few minutes, climbing gradually the whole way. I stopped to take the first photo.

Plenty of bluebells along the verges
Passing through Long Sutton, we saw the grand entrance to Lord Wandsworth College. It had been undulating to say the least and a well deserved breather at this point.

Now on through Well, with even more climbing, and with me up front, it turned out I missed a right turn, climbing a long hill unnecessarily! And the others followed.  Damn. However, a chance to photograph with bluebells set again the rape field.

Walking into the edge of the rape field, I spotted this rusty building which looked interesting amongst the fresh crops. (well I thought so anyway.)

Susie waiting whilst I took some photos

Down a lovely LONG descent, and stopping on a bend, took this 4 shot panorama. Fab clouds today, and loved the tiny bit of bright yellow just in the distance from another rape crop, and the farmhouse nestled into the hillside.

A quick check that we were heading the right way, at this signpost (Crondall 3.5 miles)

John and Susie ahead with another incline in site. ANOTHER one!!

Interesting bridge which we assume is a garden crossing the road

Checking the directions. Not far to tea stop

Roger met us for tea stop and took this photo of the 3 of us, at The Alice Holt Cycling Centre.

Now  a slog out towards Blacknest, and then a lovely descent to this very pretty spot at Isington Mill. A  walker told us it was once owned by Viscount Mongomery (Monty)

Top of another long slog out of Froyle and stopped to see the horses (well, a breather!)

in the next photo if you look carefully on the branch between the two forks of trunk..... a buzzard , which flew out of the bluebells as we passed.

Now after a very steep climb out of South Warnborogh we are rewarded with another stunning view including looking back to the village Church

A 5 shot panorama about South Warnborogh
Now through Upton Grey with ANOTHER slog up passed the church and turned right towards Greywell. John took this photo of Susie and me passing a lovely wall brimming with Aubretia.

Back to Odiham. Phew! 1800 feet gain is more than I do in the Chilterns. but  a lovely ride with lots of stunning views, which you only get if you climb.
