Dinton Pastures to Hawthorn Hill - 27.5 miles

Had been this route before, so opted for my road bike today....wrong! Kelly had decided to shake up the ride a bit and introduce some variations to the previous route and introduce a few bridal paths. Fortunately, all dooable even on a road bike, but a few times we all had to get off.

The ROUTE (takes a few seconds to open)

Weather started out warm but gloomy, grey skies, around 19 degrees, and by the end 26 degrees. Too hot!

Kelly will be working full time from next week, so this will be the last time for a while that she is  free midweek to lead a ride. Thanks for today and all you have done for us girlies. We hope you enjoy your new job but still have time to see us perhaps the odd weekend or evening through the summer months.

Today's team of 10 riders
Carole, Stephanie, Susie, Linda, Carol, Jackie, Sally, Liliana, Kelly and me

Met at Dinton, and headed over the road along the Hurst Lanes, emerging onto the Straight Mile. Turned right then left up Carters Hill past Binfield Dog Rescue. Then  right and just passed the church at Binfield, left into Stubs Lane. Then a right and   left into Cabbage Hill Lane, and after about 1.5 miles, straight over Bottle Lane, and first right into Buckle Lane. (all these lanes walking or bridal paths).
End of  Hazelwood Lane, and about to cross over Bottle Lane

Then the climb into Bowyers Lane at the back of Moss End Garden Centre. At the GREEN TRIAGLE (!!) we turned right today instead of left. This brought us downhill again on Wellers lane, then left into Church Lane, passing the church. Left into Malt Lane, then Garson Lane...

English Meaning: The name Garson is an English baby name. In English the meaning of the name Garson is: Son of Gar 'Spear-fortified town.

GARSON Lane

From Garson Lane , left into Hawthorne Lane, where the coffee stop is at Fernygrove Farm Shop. Dull grey skies, but nice recession in the far distance.

From here into the lovley Pendrys Lane, which takes you over the Ford at the end. I thought I knew the route back from here, but Kelly had a plan so once more we disappeared down a narrow bridal path, part way down Westley Mill Road. This track crossed Howe Lane and emerged into Spring Wheel Lane just before the motorway at Shurlock Row. (I wondered where that lane went!)

Bridal Path leading into Spring Wheel Lane

Bridal Path leading into Spring Wheel Lane
into Shurlock Row, left at the pond into Hungerford Lane, where we stopped to rescue a dog which was wandering on the road.  An accident waiting to happen. ( He had escaped without his owner knowing). I knocked the door and his owner appeared, much to his delight. Carole never one to miss an opportunity told the doggie owner about Breeze. Might be seeing her out soon!

We then following the Bikeathon Route back through Hurst (avoiding Castle Hill) and continiued back to Dinton.

Very hot by the end. BBQ again tonight is the plan second night running... unheard of!
