Wokingham to Caversham via Charvil and Sonning - 25 miles

A new route today led by Breeze champ Kelly, with just Maria and myself.

The route (takes a few seconds to open)

We met up at Dinton Pastures country park, and cycled alongside Black Swan lake and around Sandford Lake re appearing near the Berkshire Aviation Museum.

Crossing the first of many bridges today, this one at Sandford Lake, Dinton Pastures.

Then crossing via Beaver Way across Sandford Park, Woodley we  continued along Beggars Hill Road, finally emerging at the junction with Waingels Road. Right, then left , under the railway on to Park Lane, Charvil. To avoid crossing the A4, we then did a short detour through Park View Drive, which provides a safe crossing on the New Bath Road, and along a cycle path. To avoid another A4 roundabout, we took off into Garde Road and Little Glebe, before joining Pound Lane, part way into Sonning. Then left and right cutting through St Andews church, before joining the Thames Path.

A Reggie Perrin moment along the Thames Path. (Blue Coat boys out rowing we guessed?)

Along the back of Thames Valley Park

To continue along the Thames Path, we had to push our bikes across this bridge, otherwise straight on takes you
to The River Kennet and to The Oracle.
Caversham Lock, and  we need to cross the river again

We crossed yet another bridge at the lock, across a weir, and then another bridge below, which took us to Heron Island.

The bridge to Heron Island
Our final destination, and here the new footbridge under construction....

We had planned a tea stop here, but decided to return to Sonning Lock, where there is a pretty tea shop.

A lovely ride, with NO hills!  In total from home and back 25 miles. Thanks Kelly for a well planned route, taking in new territory.
